Bright, energy-efficient LED bulbs are working well in Willmar’s traffic signals, and LED bulbs might also be used someday in city street lights if the technology improves. An LED (light-emitting diode) bulb is perfect for traffic signals. Inside the bulb are dozens of little diodes. The intense, directional light produced by an LED bulb is more easily seen during foggy, snowy or rainy conditions compared with the light from an incandescent bulb, said Mel Odens, city public works director.
