Thirty or so glamorous garden light fixtures dangle from arbors or punctuate the graveled outdoor showroom area of Illumigarden in downtown Mill Valley.
As pretty as they are, they’re just the vehicle for the real product of interest which is hidden inside - Light-Emitting Diode bulbs or LEDs.

Crompton Greaves Monday announced its formal alliances with two Europe-based electrical giants in a bid to enter the light emitting diodes (LED) market. Sudhir Trehan, managing director of Crompton, told reporters that its alliance with the Netherlands-based Lemnis Lighting and Italy-based Fael Luce Lighting would provide them a platform for entering into the LED segment.

With the feds legislating the end of the incandescent lightbulb by 2011, and compact fluorescent lights (CFLs) being not-so-popular*, I’m eagerly awaiting the advent of inexpensive screw-in replacement high-brightness LEDs (HB LEDs.)
