No varsity game is ever complete without the basics: a lit-up stadium, exuberant cheerleaders, a commentator trying very hard to be heard over the noise, and of course, the players. However, it’s hard to forget the part of the field that attracts a million gazes every few seconds. Perhaps the most important part of the game should be that which decides the final outcome of all the adrenaline rush: the scoreboard.

LEDtronics announced its latest generation of PAR30-Style LED spotlight bulbs which is made up of five 3W high-power LEDs. They are direct incandescent PAR30 replacements, combining advanced Light Emitting Diode (LED) technologies, standard 25 mm Edison screw-in bases, and light optimizing designs producing 480 to 544 lumens of vivid light depending on the bulb model. They are available in a 40° light-emitting viewing angle, running on 80V to 260V AC current. Other voltages like 12V AC or DC are optionally available for qualifying customers. The lamp replaces a 50W to 75W PAR30 incandescent bulb but has a maximum power draw of only 15.8W. PAR30 LED lamps are available in color temperatures of 3000K Warm White and 5000K Pure White. The list price is $110.

Traffic lights across the city are going green.
Environmentally friendly LED bulbs are being installed in traffic lights at the city’s 605 intersections. They won’t save you time during rush hour, but officials say the upgrade will save the city about $325,000 a year.
“It’s going to allow us to save 80 percent on our electric bill,” said Patrick Hassett, assistant director of Pittsburgh’s public works. “It’s a no-brainer.”
